At Robert Kett, we know that day trips and residential visits have a positive impact on children - everything from improving engagement with learning, developing relationships and building confidence and well-being.

With this in mind, we have started the process of reintroducing trips and visits into our long-term curriculum plan.

Hiking

This year, we (quite literally) dipped our toe in the water, by taking the children on two residential visits. Our year 4 children, who had been learning about the Norfolk Broads, visited How Hill and our year 6’s visited Edale, set in the heart of the Peak District National Park. Alongside these residentials, we have taken children on local trips, such as Wymondham Bridewell and the beautiful surrounds of the abbey. Slightly further afield, we have also taken the children to Whitlingham Broad and Strangers Hall.

On such excursions, we have witnessed children move out of their perceived comfort zones and face their fears, such as standing on a paddleboard in the middle of a broad, or abseiling down a bridge on the Monsal Trail. We have seen first-hand the impact that touching and seeing real artefacts can have on knowledge development and understanding.

Abseiling

Quotes heard on visits include:
‘This is the best day of my life!’
‘I didn’t think that I could do it… but I did and it was fun!’

Next year, we hope to extend this provision further, with more exciting trips in the pipeline. Our leadership team is planning to offer a range of activities, events, experiences and visits, which will enhance our curriculum, develop our children and provide life-long memories.
