A special charity film show in aid of the US 389th Bomb Group Memorial Museum at Hethel will be held in the Regal Lounge at the Wymondham and District Ex-Services Social Club on Sunday 25th June (2.30pm). All are welcome.

The main film will be Memphis Belle (1990), a true story about a B-17 Flying Fortress of that name on its 25th and final mission over Germany in World War Two before returning to the States. The movie, whose stars include Matthew Modine, Eric Stoltz and Harry Connick Junior, won rave reviews on its release with Regal Cinema proprietor Les King screening it to packed houses on more than one occasion. Produced by David Puttnam, who kindly wrote the foreword to The Wymondham Regal Story, the movie keeps the viewer hooked and Harry Connick Junior’s rendition of Danny Boy is somewhat emotional. The Sally B, a B-17 Flying Fortress which regularly appears at Old Buckenham Air Show and elsewhere, took the part of the Memphis Belle in the film.

Among supporting shorts will be “Hollywood comes to Norfolk with the US 8th Army Air Force in World War Two”, featuring film stars who visited the county at the time. Admission is £5 with OAPs £4, payable at the door in cash. Any enquiries to 01953 603517 or 01953 603549.
