The Mid Norfolk Railway, one of the country’s leading tourist attractions, hosted a hugely successful visit this month from the High Sheriff of Norfolk, Mr Jo Pearson DL, and his consort, Mrs Mandy Pearson.

They met volunteers and trustees responsible for the railway’s smooth operation, from the maintenance teams and train crews to the ticket office and historic tearoom at Dereham.

As well as going behind the scenes at Dereham Station, Mr and Mrs Pearson rode in the cab of one of the railway's historic fleet of trains as they journeyed along the full length of the MNR to Wymondham Abbey.

They were also able to visit County School Station at North Elmham which it's hoped will eventually be fully linked to the rest of the railway again

MNR General Manager Samantha Taylor said, "We were thrilled to play host to one of Norfolk's most senior dignitaries and his consort. They really enjoyed their visit and meeting the staff trustees and volunteers who make the MNR work so well. I was proud of everyone who made the day such a success"

The High Sheriff was also presented with souvenirs to mark the visit, including a copy of the newly published book 'MNR: The Story of its Preservation' which is now on sale in the Dereham Station Shop.
