September is the month Wymondham Young Farmers get back up and running again after our summer break for harvest. We are kick starting the year with our new members night on Monday 26th September at Wymondham Dell Bowls club, anyone is welcome to come along and see what our club gets up to and meet some of our members. You may have seen our straw sculpture on the road coming from Attleborough into Wymondham. This year we have created a tractor and trailer which was kindly put together by some past, present and even future members along with our winning sign from Rally 2022 made by a current member to advertise our new members night… so keep a lookout for it.

We have some fantastic meetings planned for this month including our chairman’s surprise. It is a meeting organised by our previous year’s chairwoman which will (as the name suggests) be a surprise on the night!

Although the harvesting of cereal crops is finished there is still other produce which can be harvested in September such as the main crop of potatoes. Farmers are also usually getting their hedges cut this month before they start re-working the fields. Some of our members will start cultivating their land as well as drilling their winter crops and oil seed rape. September is still a busy month for farmers even though the combining may have finished. However once October is completed the work load will ease and because of the extreme weather we have been experiencing many of the Norfolk farmers are working much further ahead than usual. With the start up of our meetings we hope to gain some new members in the quieter months. Remember, you don’t have to be a young farmer to be in Young Farmers!
