Young Farmers

Wymondham Young Farmers is a charity-run club which gives young people aged between 16 and 28 opportunities to learn new skills and take part in enjoyable activities. Each week we participate in fun and diverse meetings within the local area which have included, in the past, tours of local businesses, sports activities, and enjoyable evenings out. Our weekly meetings are held on Mondays with a 7.30pm start. Throughout the year we participate in numerous county-level competitions such as the rally of which Wymondham YFC were winners this year.

We also worked together as a club to create a Go Kart with our theme of Colman’s Mustard, which was on display at the Royal Norfolk show. We are pleased to say we came joint first and are looking forward to racing them soon!

Wymondham YFC are also renowned for their annual pantomime which is always a success. After having to cancel panto because of Covid we were so excited to be able to perform Peter Pan this year. We love to get our members involved in this production as it’s a great experience to try something new and have fun with your fellow cast mates and members. Our next panto is going to be Wizard of Oz which will be performed in January 2023. We will begin rehearsing in October and look forward to keeping the town updated with our progress.

As a consequence of Covid we had to stop running our Countrysiders club, which is aimed at young people aged 10-16. However come September, Wymondham Countrysiders will be back up and running with meetings being held on a Tuesday. We are so excited to be able to get the younger ones involved again and we are looking forward to hosting some shared meetings such as our fireworks night and Christmas party to help bridge the gap between the two.

Each year we choose a charity to fundraise for and this year we have been raising money for the Spinal Injuries Association. Throughout the year we have held multiple events to raise money for this cause such as our Wymondham car wash, our first annual horse and dog show, pantomime, and Christmas tree sales to name a few. We are pleased to say we raised an amazing £12,000 for the charity, which we are really proud of as a club. This year we are going to be fundraising for the testicular cancer charity It’s On The Ball and will be holding more fundraising events such as the horse and dog show, which was a great success.

Many of our members are currently busy working on harvest, which is the busiest time of the year for farmers. Owing to the dry year we’ve had recently this has started early with many of the cereal crops being harvested from early July. Thus we are currently on a summer break of meetings until our new members’ night which is being held at 7:30pm on 12th September at Wymondham Dell Bowls Club - anyone is welcome to come along and learn more about our club.
