Whenever PE is mentioned in a classroom at Robert Kett, a cheer will usually erupt. It is one lesson children love, especially when the sun is shining and they can use the school field. Over this academic year, we have had a whole school push in improving the quality of teaching and learning of PE.
To ensure the children are receiving our own best practice as teachers, we have provided CPD for teachers to attend; the most recent was a whole staff gymnastics course after school. The purpose of CPD is to develop teacher knowledge, skills and confidence, along with reminding ourselves on how to use the fantastic gymnastic equipment we are lucky to have. We do not want the children of Robert Kett to see the equipment, but never actually be able to go on it. The buzz we get from the children when they are enjoying their lesson, was the same with the adults when the wall bars and ropes were brought out to be used. We are in a very privileged position with our equipment and we have now got the training and confidence to use it with our classes.
As we have now returned to 'normality' (or as much as possible), we have been able to organise and compete against other local schools, we have strong links with Ashleigh and Browick and the children have enjoyed representing the school in a range of sporting competitions. It has been fantastic to see the sportsmanship and competitive element of PE shine through.
