Abbey Days Easter Fair

Abbey Days are here again in Wymondham this Easter as the historic Abbey gears up for another of its community fairs for the town and visitors on Saturday 16th April.

Visitors can enjoy live music, guided tours of the Abbey, egg painting, crafts, street food, stalls, wellbeing activities and meeting the minidonks. There will also be opportunities for children to hear the Easter story and for musicians and singers to perform in the Open Mic sessions through the day.

Once again, Wymondham Abbey is collaborating with ClearCompany CIC to create a community event with something for all ages. Khushee Street food will be dishing up delicious vegan curries, Elsie’s Pizzas will be served fresh from their wood-fired oven, there will be warm waffles from Amor and a range of  stalls with local produce.

The Rev Catherine Relf-Pennington, vicar at Wymondham Abbey, said: “We are eager to create another warm community event and what better time than Easter Sunday Eve. The community is always integral to our planning so we are creating a day with variety of activities for all to enjoy.

“Our guided tours enable people to picture how the monks lived in the Abbey and the Easter story we will share during the day will allow children to understand what Easter really means, revealing God’s love for them. We hope the open mic sessions will be embraced by musicians who are keen to perform in a community setting. The Abbey is such a wonderful venue in the heart of our vibrant market town and our summer and Christmas fairs were so well attended. We are looking forward to celebrating one of our most important calendar events with our wider community.”

Attractions also include Easter face-painting, a treasure hunt, craft taster sessions and demonstrations. Musicians are invited to book their open mic slot to secure their session. ClearCompany will provide the sound system and covered performance area.

Julie Briggs, Director of ClearCompany CIC, set up to nurture Norfolk enterprise and community, said: “We are delighted to be teaming up with the Abbey once again. What an amazing venue and a fantastic opportunity for musicians to perform at a welcoming community event. This year, we are focusing a lot of effort on showcasing new and emerging musicians at our events. There is so much talent in Norfolk.”

To book your slot at the Wymondham Open Mic session, email julie@clearcompany.org.uk or call 07753 822050. The Abbey Easter fair will be open from 11am to 4pm. The event is free to attend with a charge for some activities.
