Wymondham Rotary Club has had to operate differently over the last three years. Although lockdowns and associated difficulties curtailed many aspects of the Club’s work, fundraising has still taken place and, as a result, many thousands of pounds have been given to charities at home and abroad throughout that time. Now things are getting back to some sort of normality.

Therefore at last and to general delight Wymondham Rotary Club, in association with the Wymondham Lions, are once again holding their annual Burns Night Ceilidh. This will be the first time it has been possible since 2019 and club members are really looking forward to welcoming guests to this very popular event once more.

This annual Charity Burns Night and Ceilidh will be held, as usual, at Central Hall in Wymondham and will take place on Friday 27th January 2023. The evening will start with the Selkirk Grace and the formal address to the haggis followed by the Burns Night supper complete with haggis, baked potatoes, mashed neeps and, of course, whisky gravy. The meal will end with a traditional Scottish dessert. Vegetarian and gluten free options will be available.

The tables will then be cleared and the Happy Feet Ceilidh Band will lead traditional dancing, complete with their brilliant caller. Each year the dancing enthusiasm has been wonderfully infectious.

The doors open at 6:30pm and the meal will start at 7:00. Dancing will commence at about 8:00 continuing until 11:00. The bar will be open all evening and will be manned by Rotary and Lions members. Therefore all proceeds from bar sales will go to the selected charities. There will also be a tombola which will add to those charitable donations.

The charities selected by Rotary include the Eradication of Polio Campaign and the provision of a Shelterbox for emergency international aid relief, as well as other international charities. For the Lions the proceeds will benefit local Wymondham charities.
