John Beckett's poetry reading inspired Michelle's work.

A local arts project all about the love of trees has inspired a new poem.

“Artist Tree” was launched to coincide with this year’s Community Garage Sale on August Bank Holiday Monday, organised by North Wymondham Community Centre.

The event included art and craft displays, poetry, and a short play in the Hall. After hearing the work of local poet John Beckett, an audience member (Michelle Woodley) was inspired to write this poem.

In the Breeze

When I woke this morning the sky glowed red, I closed my eyes to see the darkness instead

I sat still as if invisible to my fellow friends when they danced, showing off their colours and depths

Shrinking into a crunched-up ball pretending I had died

Ready to fall

Then dawn faded, bringing with its departure a new feeling

What if I were able to be a unique example that dances in the breeze

I to have a colour that glides and flows gently.

Part of the cycle I now decide to shine a little piece of myself at a time.
