The latest Little Free Library book swap boxes have been unveiled in Wymondham with the help of volunteer members from The Shed community group.

The boxes, located at North Wymondham Community Centre and at Wymondham Station, were unveiled by Cllrs Suzanne Nuri-Nixon and Annette James, together with Andrew Clarke, Mike Porter and Dave Gilham from The Shed, and Sara White from the North Wymondham Community Centre.

Cllr Nuri-Nixon said “The Shed members used their imagination to create the Little Free Libraries and were awarded funds from the District Member Grant scheme. Sadly due to the pandemic, we weren’t able to roll out the other boxes until this week but we hope people will find them an enjoyable way to source books and pass on books they no longer want in return. Both fiction and non-fiction are welcome, whether children or adult books.”

The Library based at the Station is especially poignant as it was made by former The Shed member Richard Binding, who sadly passed away in 2019.

Andrew Clarke, who is chair of The Shed, paid tribute to Mr Binding, saying: “Richard was one of our Trustees and a longstanding Shed member. He was always first there on Shed mornings with a cup of tea made for the early bird members.  He had great skills and knowledge and he would love to teach other Shed members. He had the concept, designed and built the Little Book Library box shortly before his passing in February 2019 after a short illness.”

The idea of the community Little Free Libraries book boxes is to ‘take a book, leave a book’ and can be found in countries around the world. Each has their own serial number and can be located on a worldwide map. The first one in Wymondham was unveiled a couple of years ago and is located at the Baptist Church in Queen Street.
