On the afternoon of Saturday 10th December 2022, a birthday party was held by the Wymondham u3a at Central Hall, Wymondham for one of our founding members, Edith Pleasance who was celebrating her 100th birthday.
A frame was put up with photographs of Edith in her youth, together with her husband who was a POW in Eastern Germany during World War II returning home in 1945.
Wymondham u3a celebrated their 21st birthday in February and Edith has been a member since 2001 with a membership number of 1002, just missing out on number one!
The afternoon tea of sausage rolls, scones and cake was enjoyed by all, accompanied by wine, tea and coffee. The afternoon was supported by some great music from the ‘Dell Boys’ with everyone thrilled at seeing Edith on the dance floor with pure delight on her face, obviously enjoying every minute of the afternoon.
The party was attended by a large number of members, many of whom are her friends and hold her in great esteem and respect. Over the more than two decades of membership she has both instigated and been involved in a variety of our groups and activities. For many years she has been a regular bridge player.
Edith has been an prolific writer throughout her life and has regularly contributed articles and poems to, what was the Wymondham News, the Wayland News and the Mid Norfolk Times. In 2005, one of her articles was broadcast on BBC Radio Norfolk.
The ceremony of the cutting of the amazing cake, baked by Jennifer Attwell came towards the end of the afternoon before departing for home.
