An entertaining and educational talk will be given by medical historian Dr Joy Hawkins in Wymondham Abbey on Sunday 28th May 2023 at 3pm. She will illustrate her talk with Powerpoint slides.
Joy will be talking about the range of herbal remedies used to treat everyday ailments in mediaeval England such as headaches, vomiting, eye complaints and burns. A range of stones and jewels were also used, both for protection and as curatives. Joy will also touch upon the importance of pilgrimage and relics to treat chronic illnesses before the Reformation.
