Wymondham Art Society is pleased to introduce an exciting new programme of events for 2023.  It includes demonstrations by artists proficient in various mediums; oils, watercolours, pastels and inks.  Subject matter is varied, including local landscapes, wildlife, still life and portraits.  Also included in July is an illustrated talk by the curator of the Munnings Museum in Dedham, Jenny Hand.  The museum is the former home of Alfred Munnings and owns the largest collection of art works by this superb East Anglian painter, well known for his paintings of horses, who began his career designing posters for Colman's Mustard and went on to become president of the Royal Society.

Everyone is very welcome to attend meetings, which are informal and friendly.  We meet at 7:15pm on the first Wednesday of every month, except January, at the Roman Catholic Church Hall.  All you need is an interest in the visual arts – you do not have to be an artist yourself, though the majority of our members enjoy painting.  We do not offer painting tuition as a society.  Meetings are free to members, with a £5 charge for guests (includes refreshments).  Full membership is £30 per annum.  Please come along to a meeting for a taster session.  If you subsequently join, your guest fee will be refunded.

Portrait demonstration

The 2023 season starts on Wednesday, 1st February with a demonstration of painting with acrylic inks by Sue Williams.  Sue's demonstrations are always very popular, instructive and entertaining, so would be an excellent introduction to potential new members.  Acrylic ink may be an unfamiliar medium to some, but can create dynamic, colourful paintings.

In addition to monthly meetings, Wymondham Art Society holds an Annual Exhibition of members' work in Wymondham Arts Centre, Church Street, usually in August.  The Arts Centre is currently closed for essential repairs, so this year's exhibition dates have not yet been secured.  The week-long event is always very successful, allowing members the opportunity to showcase or sell their latest paintings, both framed and unframed and also greetings cards.

There is also always a small gallery of paintings in the dining room of The White Hart pub in the centre of Wymondham.  The exhibition is regularly changed to display new and seasonal works of art, which are all for sale. All members have the opportunity to exhibit on a first come first served basis.

In the summer months, May to September, as an optional activity we organise a plein air group, which meets in different locations bi-monthly to paint together outside - weather permitting of course.  Last year on some occasions, unbelievably, it was too hot!

Directed demonstration

If you think Wymondham Art Society may be of interest to you, please come along to a meeting or contact the secretary by email for more details.  We are always very pleased to welcome new members.
