In the Summer edition of this magazine, I described how the Queen's Head, now called The Wise Monkeys, boasted a quartet led by landlord Spencer Armstrong, which entertained its patrons in the Swinging Sixties.
However, the Queen's Head wasn't the only Wymondham pub where live music was once enjoyed. On the Market Place, the historic Cross Keys (now due to reopen) was providing such entertainment with The Keymen in the Rockin' Fifties. The main picture shows landlord Charlie Webb on the piano with Tony Burton on double bass and Alan Garwood playing the accordion. Another picture of The Keymen shows Tony Burton on the left and Charlie Webb on the right.

In 1958, the genial John Knights had taken over as landlord. He also promoted jazz sessions at the old Women's Institute Hall on Norwich Road, which was sold in 1965 and demolished shortly after - but that's another story!
