It was total euphoria for the Wymondham in Bloom team at the Anglia in Bloom event in Huntingdon, as they finally achieved a Gold level award for the town. This was the third time the group had an in-person judging session and both previous times they achieved a very admirable Silver Gilt award.
This year the Bloomers had even more volunteers join in, which made all the difference in ensuring the town’s planters were watered, litter was picked up and weeds were removed.
Trophies were awarded to two Wymondham sites as well. Wymondham Abbey took the top prize for Biodiversity & Conservation, having drastically improved the wildflower area and herb gardens. The Best Commercial Area trophy was given to our ‘High Street’, encompassing the town centre route from Fairland Street, through Market Street, Middleton Street and Town Green. Judges were blown away by the incredibly high participation levels of our town centre businesses.
Special category award finalists also included four additional Wymondham sites: Ashleigh Primary School, Robert Kett Court, Browick Road Community Orchard and Becket’s Chapel.
The team haven’t taken much time to rest after the celebrations as they’re already back out weeding public car parks before the winter season hits.
You too can join in! If you’d like to make new friends and spend time outdoors, as and when you’re available, send an email to wymbloom@gmail.com. No gardening experience necessary!
