Lions BBQ

It is really good to be getting back to a sort of normality, with plenty of events coming up. After two members assisted in Nelson's Journey's recent Walk of Smiles we were able to have a small BBQ to celebrate the Club's 52nd birthday - yes, 52 years of service in Wymondham, an achievement well worth celebrating. It was also the President's Handover. Incoming Lion President John Wilde, receiving the President's chain from Jim Cawte, said he was looking forward to a year of fun and fundraising, becoming more active in the community with more events raising money to give away to good causes.

We were well represented at the returning Royal Norfolk Show where Wymondham, along with other Lions Clubs, gave out wristbands with parents' phone numbers on to youngsters in case they became lost in the crowds. This service is free of charge and much appreciated by parents. We have also tagged dolls, dogs, prams and grannies!

After the RNS came the wonderful Jazz Picnic. A big thank you to everyone who bought a Lion Burger or Banger. This was a new venture for us and we raised just over £300. Very pleasing. This will all go into our charity account ready for giving away. We certainly hope to be BBQing there next year.

Future events include assisting at the Wayland Show and the return of the Lions’ famous Quiz'n'chilli at Central Hall on 28th October. Details (but not the answers) will be published soon.

The Real Santa will be at the grotto at Wynterfest on 4th December. A letter from the North Pole assures me that he will be bringing even more presents to Wymondham this year. A collection will be held at Waitrose in early December. The money raised from this buys presents for all of the residents in four Wymondham care homes. The heavenly Lions choir will sing carols while Santa goes round giving out the presents. Good singers are always welcome to join us in a good sing-along. Finally, I am really pleased that a date has been set for the return of the Burns Supper and Ceilidh - our joint venture with Rotary. Friday 27th January. Fingers, and everything else, crossed that Mr Covid doesn't reappear to put a dampener on festivities.

Wymondham Lions meet upstairs in The Feathers PH on the last Tuesday of the month at 7.30pm. We are always happy to have interested members of the public come along.
