Jubilee Fest & Community Picnic

The largest event over the weekend is expected to be the Jubilee Fest & Community Picnic at Kett’s Park, which has been organised by the Town Team.

Celebrations there kick off at 2pm on Sunday 5th June, with organisers expecting in the region of 3000 people to turn up and enjoy the family party atmosphere.

Visitors can look forward to a funfair, street food, ice cream van, beer tent, traditional games and stalls from community groups. A time capsule will also be filled with items from the community.

There will be on-stage music all day, sponsored by local retailer Jarrold. The headline party band The Walks top the bill, supported by other popular local acts. Admission is free but guests are encouraged to bring a donation of ambient food for the Wymondham Community Outreach Project. https://www.facebook.com/events/3177378095879238/

Town Centre Art Trail

A whole week of jubilee fun awaits, as four primary schools in Wymondham and stART Studio have organised a Jubilee Art Trail throughout the town taking place throughout the May half term holiday. Throughout the trail there will be fun facts about the Queen to spot, and hidden clues to find – rearrange the letters to spell out a word associated with the Queen – and you could win a prize! Sheets are available for a suggested donation of £2 each and all money raised will go directly to the four PTAs. The trail will start on Saturday 28th May and finish on Sunday 5th June. https://www.facebook.com/wymjubileetrail/

Town Green Street Party

Get the long weekend started the right way on Thursday 2nd June, with a good old fashioned street party laid on by the businesses of Town Green. Wymondham Sports Bar and the Town Green Garden Cafe are teaming up to host a proper celebration. Happening on Thursday and Friday from 11am-5pm, there will be a bbq, hog roast, music, Pimm’s, cider, beer and music. https://www.facebook.com/events/892918582110144/

Ex-Services Club Celebrations

If anyone knows how to honour our Queen with a patriotic party it’s the Wymondham & District Ex-Services Club. They’ve been planning for months to ensure a perfect atmosphere to kick back and say ‘cheers’ to Her Majesty.

The Ex-Services Jubilee Street Party starts at 1pm on Thursday 2nd June, including the Norwich Pipe Band performance from 2:30pm. Friday they will have their usual Bingo Night from 7pm.

On Saturday their major celebrations continue with military vehicles, 1940s music all day and a bbq from 6pm. At 8pm doors will open for the ‘Glamtastics’ live band (free to members, £2 non-members). https://www.facebook.com/events/405890204728664/

White Hart Festival Series

On Wednesday 1st June from 5pm the White Hart’s Beer & Drinks Festival kicks off with the official opening of the new garden seating area. Their party continues on Thursday, including free admittance to the Hooma Comedy Club with hilarious local comedy acts from 7pm. On Friday from 8:30pm you can party to local music from Kenny & The Hustlers.

A professional pet photo shoot competition with prizes for the top three will be held on Saturday from 2-5pm, followed by a wine tasting evening from 6:30pm onwards with canapes.

Capping off the jam-packed weekend on Sunday the White Hart Quiz Night will have you racking  your brains from 5pm (£2 per head), followed by a jubilant charity raffle prize draw starting around 7:30pm. https://www.facebook.com/events/412340124040041/

Community Garage Sale

North Wymondham Community Centre has organised a garage sale event throughout the town on Saturday 4th June from 10am to 3pm. Neighbours are calling upon each other to join in and put their unwanted items out in front of their home, for a day of browsing and chatting. One person’s cast offs are another’s treasure. It’s good for the environment and for the community.

A wide range of musical acts will keep your toes tapping throughout the long weekend. https://www.facebook.com/events/730066554848682/

Grand Jubilee Film Show

For a more-genteel afternoon of entertainment, an old-time cinema experience awaits you at the Ex-Services Club, with their Grand Jubilee Film Show on Sunday 5th June.

The programme commences at 2:30pm with some rare footage of the visit of the then Princess Elizabeth and the Duke of Edinburgh to Canada and the USA in October 1951, followed by a short film of Wymondham’s Coronation celebrations in 1953.

After an interval, during which ice creams, teas, coffees and drinks will be available, the film “A Queen is Crowned” about the Coronation, with commentary by the legendary Laurence Olivier, will conclude the show.
