The Garden Centre wins the prize for a clear and obvious act of kindness in recent months.

As reported in Neil Haverson’s latest, the Bridewell Tearoom’s tables were in a bad way. Many of them were rocky, and drinks would spill all over them.

“So when the Garden Centre said they were going to have a refit, we asked if we could have some and they kindly donated them to us,” said Helen Munday, Bridewell Tearoom manager.

You can read the whole tale in Neil Haverson’s article, and it is a testament to Wymondham kindness. The Bridewell Tearoom now has stable tables thanks to a local business’s community spirit.

But that is not the only example of Wymondham’s recent good humour. In July, a rather curious Facebook post cropped up on Wymondham Ways:

‘Anyone missing 3 little pigs?’ asked the ironically named Mr Wolverson.

‘These three running around Town Green area at the moment,’ with pictures attached that indeed showed three pigs on the loose in Wymondham Town Centre.

The heartwarming thing was, the Facebook commenters couldn’t have been more obliging in their love for animals. Sure, one or two commenters made attempts at humour: ‘the wolf must of blown thier house down [sic]’, wrote one enterprising local comedian. ‘You could’ve blurred people’s faces tho,’ warned another commenter, an unusual hill to die on, but a testament to Wymondhammers’ capacity for friendliness and perspective on what’s important.

But most of the comments demonstrated Wymondham’s firmly kind-hearted spirit towards animals. ‘I love to see them free. I wish all animals could be free.’ ‘Best post of the day.’ ‘Freedom is so sweet - bless them.’ ‘Looks like they were heading to the Feathers for a quick pint.’

And, most importantly, we got this comment: ‘Pigs have been collected and returned home,’ said a local biology teacher. We had no way of verifying if this was true, but one rather hopes so.

So Wymondham’s community spirit and good humour extend to animals too. How nice. Almost worth a celebratory drink at The Boars.
